Nabin Dhimal
Nabin Dhimal is a dedicated advocate and leader in refugee rights and statelessness. As the founder of the Bhutanese Refugee Coalition (BRC), Nabin draws his personal experience as a forcibly displaced person and leverages nearly a decade of professional experience working with refugees. Like many other Nepali-speaking Bhutanese, his family was displaced due to the Bhutanese Government’s “One Nation, One People” policy, which fuels his unwavering commitment to social justice and equity.
Currently, Nabin serves as a Program Manager at Lutheran Community Services Northwest, where he oversees culturally responsive programs designed to assist refugees and immigrants in achieving self-sufficiency. Prior to this role, he held the position of Program Coordinator at the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO), where he spearheaded youth academic programs and developed strategies tailored to the needs of newly arrived refugees. Additionally, he has experience as a Community Ambassador with the City of Portland’s Parks for New Portlanders program, where he designed inclusive services for communities of color.
As a graduate student at Georgetown University, specializing in International Migration and Refugee Studies, Nabin’s academic journey is deeply personal. He has actively participated in several impactful committees, including as a founding board member of Nesika Wilamut, the New Portlanders Policy Commission, and Metro’s Racial Equity Committee. Currently, serves on the U.S. Refugee Advisory Board (USRAB), where he collaborates with stakeholders and international partners to promote equitable representation and meaningful engagement with refugees.
